Sekolah Nusa Alam Secondary Curriculum Overview

Sekolah Nusa Alam uses the Cambridge International Secondary 1 and Secondary 2programs for the core subects of English, Maths and Science and a blend of other curricula for subjects such as History, Geography, Business Studies, Artand PE. The secondary school also use elements of the Indonesian National Curriculum for Bahasa Indonesia, Civics and Religion.

Cambridge Secondary 1

Cambridge Secondary 1 is typically for learners aged 11 to 14 years. It build son the foundations of Cambridge Primary. Cambridge Secondary 1 develops learner skills and understanding in English, English as a Second Language, mathematics and science for the first three years of secondary education. Cambridge Secondary 1 provides excellent preparation for Cambridge Secondar 2 and other educational systems.

Sekolah Nusa Alam uses the Cambridge Secondary 1 testing structure to assess learner performance and report progress to learners and parents. CambridgeSecondary 1 assessment uses internationally benchmarked tests, givin gparents extra trust in the feedback they receive.

 

 

There are two testing options at Cambridge Secondary 1 stage:Cambridge Secondary 1 Progression Tests and Cambridge Secondary 1 Check point for learners typically aged 11 to 14 years.

 

 

Cambridge Secondary 1 Progression Tests:

 

 

  • Provided tailed information aboutthe performance of each learner for stages 7, 8 and 9 of the curriculum
  • Enable teachers to give structured feedback to learners and parents

Cambridge Secondary 1 provides a unique analysis tool for Cambridge Progression Tests – the Cambridge Progress Checker– to track learners’ progress. Using a spreadsheet,teachers upload learners’ test results and can then analyse results and create and print reports. This enables comparisons of a learner’s result against their class, school or other schools around the world, and ona year- by – year basis.

 

Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint:

  • Is a test to assess learning at the end of Cambridge Secondary 1 and provide evidence of readiness for the next stage.
  • Is available for English, English as a Second Language, mathematics and science.
  • Tests skills, knowledge and understanding for stages 7 – 9 of the curriculum for English, English as a Second Language, mathematics and science.

Cambridge Secondary Subjects Overview

The Cambridge Secondary 1 English curriculum promotes an enquiry- based approach to learning to develop thinking skills and encourage intellectual engagement. The curriculum is presented in five content areas. Phonics, spelling and vocabulary and Grammar and punctuation relate to use of English. Grammar and punctuation is further divided into Reading and Writing to reflect the different ways in which grammar and punctuation are applied in each of these skills.Reading, Writing, and Speaking and listening are about developing thinking skills and encouraging intellectual engagement. The learning objectives span knowledge and understanding and other qualities. This curriculum encourages learners who are confident, creative and intellectually engaged, capable of applying their skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with enjoyment and understanding. Learners who follow this framework will develop a first language competency in English based on a curriculum designed to be successful in any culture and to promote cross-cultural understanding. The Cambridge Secondary 1 English curriculum framework continues the journey from the primary English framework and provides a solid foundation upon which the later stages of education can be built.

The Cambridge Secondary 1 mathematics curriculum is presented insix content areas: Number, Algebra, Geometry, Measure, Handling data and Problem solving. The first five content areas are all underpinned by Problem solving, which provides a structure for the application of mathematical skills.Mental strategies are also a key part of the Number content. Toget her, these two areas form a progressive step preparing students for entry onto IGCSE level courses. This curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. The Cambridge Secondary 1 Mathematics curriculum framework continues the journey from the Cambridge Primary Mathematics framework and provides a solid foundation upon which the later stages of education can be built.

 

The Cambridge Secondary 1 Science curriculum is presented in four content areas: Scientific enquiry, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning investigative work and recording and analysing data. The Scientific enquiry objectives underpin Biology, Chemistry and Physics, which are focused on developing confidence and interest in scientific knowledge. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also incorporated. The Cambridge Secondary 1 Science curriculum framework continues the journey from the Cambridge Primary Science framework and provides a solid foundation upon which the later stages of education can be built.

 



 

 

 

Cambridge Secondary 2 at Sekolah Nusa Alam

Cambridge Secondary 2 is typically for learners aged 14 to16 years. It builds on the foundations of Cambridge Secondary 1. Cambridge Secondary 2 includes Cambridge IGCSE–the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds, which has been designed especially for an international audience. The IGCSE uses learner-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning to ensure that the students are well placed to face the rigours of an ever changing world.

 

Our curriculum

The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum offers a variety of routes for learner swith a wide range of abilities, including those whosefirst language is not English. It develops learner knowledge, understanding and skills in:

The IGCSE syllabuses are international in outlook, but retain a local relevance. They have been created specifically for an international student body with content to suit a wide variety of schools and a void cultural bias.
