Hari Kartini at Sekolah Nusa Alam

At Sekolah Nusa Alam, Hari Kartini is an important moment in the school year. It is a time for students to reflect on the values of education, equality, and empowerment, while also celebrating Indonesian culture and history.

Each year, this day provides an opportunity to connect learning with real-world meaning, helping students understand how the past continues to shape the present.

What is Hari Kartini?

Hari Kartini is celebrated annually on the 21st of April across Indonesia. The day honours Raden Ajeng Kartini, a national hero who is widely recognised for her role in advocating for women’s rights and access to education.

Born in the late 19th century, Kartini challenged traditional expectations placed on women at the time. Through her letters and writings, she expressed a strong belief that education should be accessible to all, regardless of gender. Her thoughts later became an important foundation for conversations around equality and opportunity in Indonesia.

Today, Kartini is remembered not only for her ideas, but for the lasting impact those ideas have had on education and society.

A Day of Learning and Celebration

This year, our Hari Kartini celebration at Sekolah Nusa Alam brought together students, teachers, and staff for a vibrant and meaningful shared experience.

The day began with a school gathering led by our teachers, introducing the significance of Kartini and why her message remains relevant today.

Students then took part in a variety of engaging activities, including:

  • A quiz, encouraging students to learn more about Kartini’s life and legacy
  • Dance performances, showcasing creativity and confidence
  • A special flower petal tradition, where students formed a line and gently scattered petals over female teachers and students as a gesture of respect and appreciation

These moments created a joyful and memorable atmosphere, while also reinforcing the values of gratitude, respect, and community.

Celebrating Culture Through Experience

A highlight of the day was the strong presence of Indonesian culture throughout the school.

Many students and staff wore traditional clothing, adding colour and meaning to the celebration and strengthening the connection between heritage and learning.

Events like this allow students to experience culture in a meaningful way, helping them build a deeper understanding of identity, tradition, and community.

Why Hari Kartini Matters in Education

At Sekolah Nusa Alam, we believe that celebrations like Hari Kartini play an important role in shaping well-rounded learners.

By exploring themes such as gender equality, access to education, and social responsibility, students develop a broader understanding of the world around them. They are encouraged to think critically, reflect on important values, and recognise how they can contribute positively to society.

Kartini’s message continues to resonate today, reminding us that education is a powerful tool for change.

Thank You

We would like to thank our teachers and teaching assistants for their effort in organising such a meaningful and enjoyable celebration.

Hari Kartini remains an important part of our school calendar, bringing our community together to reflect, learn, and celebrate.
